
The Portland Winterhawks acquired Josh Davies and Tyson Yaremko from the Swift Current Broncos in a trade this week. Swift Current receives defenseman Ryan McCleary, a sixth-round pick in 2027, and four conditional picks over the next four years.
Josh Davies is a 19-year-old forward from Airdrie, AB. Davies joined Swift Current during the 2019-2020 season. Over the past four seasons, Davies has played in 149 regular season games. Davies has tallied 42 career goals, 37 assists, for a total of 79 points. Last year, Davies had a career-high 20 goals through the regular season. Davies was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the 6th round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Tyson Yaremko was drafted by Swift Current in the 4th round of the WHL draft. The 18-year-old from Saskatoon, SK has only played in one game for the Broncos. For the past two years, Yaremko has been playing in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League U18 for the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA. Last year, Yaremko scored 21 goals and 42 assists for 63 points in 41 games.
Ryan McCleary will be returning to his hometown team as a result of this trade. The 19-year-old was born in Swift Current and played for the Broncos U15 and U18 teams before signing with the Portland Winterhawks. McCleary has played for Portland since the 2020-2021 season. His best season was last year where McCleary had 13 goals, 18 assists, totaling in 31 points through 66 games.
With the addition of Davies and Yaremko, the Winterhawks are back under the limit of 20-year-olds per roster. The two forwards look to join Portland before the 2023 Neely Cup that starts August 31.
