After close to a full day to review and analyze the events that happened between the Mariners and Angels, the suspensions are final. On Sunday, the Mariners and Angels got into a two-part brawl, where Jesse Winker and JP Crawford were throwing haymakers at coaches and players.
It all started Saturday night, actually. A pitch sailed close to Mike Trout’s head on its way to the backstop in the ninth inning. The Angels star was unhappy and said as much after the game. Then the Angels announced an opener for Sunday’s game. The opener Andrew Wantz threw at the head of Julio Rodriguez in the first inning, but missed, and threw at Winker in the second and the brawl happened:
After the brawl, Raisiel Iglesias threw a bucket of sunflower seeds on the field:
While the suspensions have been finalized, there has been no clear evidence as to why Julio Rodriguez and Scott Servais were thrown out of the game. On the Mariners side, Jesse (who received a pizza from a Mariners fan) and JP Crawford received the longest suspensions. Julio will only see a two-game suspension.
As of now, there is no indication on if the Mariners players will appeal their suspensions.
On, the flipside the Mariners had an injury occur during the fight, as Luis Torrens had a injury to his left shoulder, and the team called up switch-hitting backstop Andrew Knapp. Knapp was claimed off waivers earlier from Pittsburgh earlier this season.
This is breaking news… there will be more to come.
