Ducks get a new Offensive Coordinator

Kin Man Hui, San Antonio Express-News

The Oregon Ducks recently announced that Will Stein will be the offensive coordinator for the Oregon Ducks. Stein will be replacing Kenny Dillingham who has been with the Ducks since December 2022. Dillingham announced in November that he’d be leaving Oregon to be the head coach of Arizona State.

Stein has had a variety of football experience including playing in college and coaching both high school and college teams. Stein’s most recent coaching job was at the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) where he was not only the offensive coordinator but also the assistant head coach and the quarterbacks’ coach. UTSA finished the 2022 season 11-2 and will play against Troy in the Duluth Trading Cure Bowl this year. Stein has been deemed a good fit for the Ducks for many reasons. His work at UTSA caught a lot of the eye of a lot of people over the last couple of years. Stein was a great resource for the team and the UTSA’s statistics have proved that. Stein also has worked with some of the current Oregon coaching staff including tight end coach Drew Mehringer and Marshall Malchow who is the Oregon chief of staff.

Ducks fans are excited to see some new faces on the coaching team after the 2022 season. The recent season left fans disappointed as the Ducks were beaten by Washington and Oregon State. With Stein named the new offensive coordinator fans are excited to see what he will do in the 2023 season. Even with the 2022 season coming to an end fans are already excited for the next season. There have already been rumors that Bo Nix will stay for another season with the Ducks. If Bo Nix doesn’t stay, he’ll enter the 2023 NFL draft while Ty Thompson and Dante Moore would prepare to fill his shoes.

With the end of the season, there are lots of players and coaches coming and going. Oregon has months to recruit and switch things around. However, the new offensive coordinator has fans excited already. The team should gain a lot from Stein’s impressive background. Fans should also be able to get a sneak peek of what the coach can offer at the annual spring game. However, fans won’t have to wait that long to see the Ducks play. Oregon will take on North Carolina in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego Wednesday, Dec. 28 with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
