
The Portland Thorns wrapped up their preseason tournament play this Saturday night. During this week-long event, the Thorns played host to Racing Louisville FC, the OL Reign, and the U.S. U-23 Women’s Youth National Team.
Portland ended the tournament with a 2-1 record. Cumulatively, the Thorns outscored their opposition 5-2. Portland opened the tournament with a 1-0 win against Racing Louisville FC, followed by a 4-1 win over the U-23 Women’s Youth National Team. Their only loss was a 1-0 loss to the OL Reign this Saturday night.
Portland had 24 players make an appearance during the tournament. Most notably, 2023 NWSL draft picks Izzy D’Aquila and Reyna Reyes had opportunities to take to the pitch. D’Aquila played in all three matches and was in the starting lineup against the OL Reign. Reyes was substituted into the games against the OL Reign and the U.S. U-23 team. Becky Sauerbrunn also got to start against the OL Reign and played a full 45 minutes.
Portland starts their 2023 regular season Monday, March 26 with a home match against the Orlando Pride. Kickoff is at 2:00 p.m.
