The Seattle Seahawks just signed Pass-Rushing Defensive End Aldon Smith to a one-year deal. Will Smith’s addition help an already stacked defense? The Seahawks already have the likes of Carlos Dunlap who they resigned this off-season, Jamal Adams, Bobby Wagner, etc.
Pete Carroll is entering his eleventh season as the Seahawks head coach and hopes that he has the team that he can propel to another Super Bowl victory. Seattle’s offense is already stacked with players like star wide receivers DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and running back Chris Carson who they re-signed this off-season and star quarterback Russell Wilson.
With this new addition, Seattle’s defense looks even stronger and more threatening. The Seahawks will be looking to rely on their defense since they can’t always rely on the offense as Wilson gets older. He won’t be around much longer, and Seattle will be looking to get a young replacement for Wilson.
Is this the first time their defense have been stacked?
The Seahawks defense had a period back from 2012-2015 where they were unstoppable, but poor management from the front office saw Earl Thomas III, Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor all leave or retire from the game. The only one that was left was Bobby Wagner and fans could see how much the Seahawks needed those players.
That core group was known as the Legion of Boom for their hard-hitting and rough defense that led them to their only Super Bowl Championship and two consecutive Super Bowl appearances. The Seahawks have consistently made the playoffs. Seattle had a great start last season starting out 5-0, but then went on to lose four of their last seven games. They ended with a record of 12-4 and lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wildcard round. A disappointing way to end their season after a lot of excitement to start the Seahawks season.
Could Smith be the player they needed?
Smith who played for the Cowboys last season will hope he can perform up to expectations. With the addition of Smith, Seattle hopes that he’ll have a good enough impact to propel the Seahawks into a season where they can capture the infamous Lombardi Trophy. Seattle fans hope they can watch their team make the run to the playoffs and end up winning it all as Seattle might finally have the team that could finally make the final push they need.
